Crystal Figurines - Handle With Care And Keep For A Lifetime

Crystal figurines are very delicate and they need to be handled very carefully. Hand cut crystal is also expensive and even though the crystal figurines in the shape of cats or dolphins may be small, they are also costly. This is why most people take great care when displaying their collection of crystal figurines by having them inside a curio cabinet.

In order to show crystal figurines to gain the greatest effect, lighting is of utmost importance. The light reflects off the crystal and shows off the minute detailing that is evident in every piece. A crystal cat figurine or a crystal dolphin figurine looks elegant when displayed on a shelf by themselves or in combination with other figurines. When you do your regular dusting chores, it is sufficient to dust off each crystal figurine individually using a soft, lint-free cloth.

When you want to give them a more thorough cleaning, use lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Make sure you completely dry each figurine before you put it back in place.

How you should - or shouldn't - care for your crystal figurines

You should never put crystal figurines in the dishwasher. This is because hot water and the dishwasher detergent can scratch a crystal figurine and mar its beauty. Such figurines made of crystal, such as those in the shape of an angel, a dog, cat, whale or dolphin, are designed for use inside in average levels of humidity. You should also take care to keep your crystal cat figurine or crystal dolphin figurine out of the sunlight. Long periods of exposure to sunlight can damage your crystal figurines.

Whether or not the figurines you buy are classified as crystal depends on the country in which you buy them. Crystal figurines in Europe that contain less than 4% lead are classified as glass rather than crystal. It is only a figurine that contains more than 10% lead that is classified as a crystal figurine.

In the United States, however, you can buy a crystal cat figurine that contains as little as 1% lead. In the Czech Republic, crystal refers to high quality glass and leaded crystal is the term used for crystal containing more than 24% lead.

In spite of the low concentration of lead required for crystal figurines in the United States, you can generally tell how much lead they contain by the price. The more lead in a crystal figurine, the more expensive it is. A Precosia crystal cat figurine contains 31% lead crystal, while the laser -cut crystal figurines contain 30% sparkling lead crystal.
